Trust in the Lord, and do good: Dwell in the land, and feed on His Faithfulness. Psalm 37:3
Happy New Year 2018!!! There is such an energy and excitement about this new year as we look forward to all that lies ahead. What will this new year bring to our homes, businesses, family, and nation? As I pray, meditating upon 2018, these very simple words come to my heart: “Trust in the Lord, and do good: Dwell in the land, and feed on His Faithfulness.”
TRUST GOD- I climbed on everything when I was a kid. And I’m not just talking about on furniture. We had a large tree in our front yard that was often the scene for many “adventures.” My little brother was often the Clark to my Louis and we were even bold enough to see the roof of our house as uncharted territory which must be explored.
When dad would get home from work and tell us to “come down from there,” the adventure didn’t end. I would often call back, “catch me dad!” and no matter how wild and crazy I decided to jump, I’m talking with twists or risky turns and flips, Dad always caught me. From the tree, the roof, his tractors or whatever I had guts enough to climb. I KNEW dad wouldn’t drop me. I completely trusted him.
It is the very same with Our Heavenly Father, He’s got you, He’s not going to drop you, you can TRUST HIM. Go ahead, take the leap this year! With turns, flips and twists, He’s got you! As long as Jesus is calling you to jump, know that He’ll catch you.
DO GOOD- I remember a time my brothers, in their teenage years, were rewarded by a restaurant owner in our hometown. They’d found a bag full of money in the middle of the street, and because of its contents learned that it belonged to a man who owned one of the local restaurants we frequented. They returned the money to him and the whole story was written up in our local newspaper. The restaurant owner was so grateful the bag was returned because there was a very large sum of money in the bag, and not one dime was missing. Out of his extreme gratitude he gave both my brothers $100 each. For teens in the eighties that was a huge reward! But a reward they weren’t even looking for. They returned the bag simply because it didn’t belong to them. Doing good brings about its own rewards, and God is the rewarder.
DWELL IN THE LAND- How many of us have felt, or currently do feel, restless, wandering, unsettled in our current place in life? The enemy is constantly at work trying to keep us on the move from one thing to another, making decisions and changes based on fear and never really connecting with our purpose, leaving us confused, scared and frustrated. Dwelling in the land is more a state of being than a location. Think of the phrase “settle down.” It speaks of being calm and not anxious. When we trust God and do good He will cause us to dwell in the land to which He leads us. The good land flowing with milk and honey. The land of His peace, joy, goodness and prosperity, protected from the threats and attacks of the enemy.
FEED ON HIS FAITHFULNESS- A basic necessity of life is food; we can’t live without it. And while that concern bears much weight, Jesus encourages us not to worry about what we will eat or drink but to first seek the Kingdom of God and all these other things will be added to us. The reason is simple: He is faithful. God’s provision has nothing to do with how perfect you think you can be; you can’t do enough to earn His faithfulness. He is faithful because He is faithfulness. God’s ways really aren’t that complicated. Seek first the kingdom and all these things will be added. Trust God, do good, dwell and prosper. Because feeding on His faithfulness isn’t simply about doing good. It’s about living in a place where you have faith like a child to believe God and God alone for everything you need. When you see Him as the source of every good thing, and trust Him alone to provide, then your entire life is fed by His faithfulness and there’s no other choice but to prosper!
A Prayer for a Blessed and Prosperous New Year
Father I thank you that as I trust you and do good, I dwell in a good land and I will feed on your faithfulness. I thank you that you cause me to prosper and be in health even as my soul prospers in this New Year. In the Name of Jesus I pray. Amen!
